Assalamu Alaikum
The five daily prayers (salaat) are one of the obligatory pillars of Islam and they are inherently fundamental to leading life as a good Muslim. It is only through worship and good deeds that we may seek to attain forgiveness for our sins. Just like bathing five times a day would leave one spotless, observing the daily prayers purifies and cleanses the depths of our souls.
The extra rewards one gains from congregational salaat are many and well documented. Therefore it is a primary duty upon us to secure places of worship where we can hold prayers in Jamaat. In Cambridge there are a number of places to pray, and these are listed in the section below.

Prayer Timetable for the current month
These times will be observed in the Sidgwick Site prayer room. (Right click and "Save Target As...")

Places to Pray

Cambridge Mosque
Mawson Road, Tel: 01223 350134

The first thing that strikes you when you come to the Mosque is the sheer variety of people you meet – people from all nationalities, colours and backgrounds, praying side by side. The mosque is quite large, has a separate sisters section and a library. Talks are organised weekly on Friday evenings.

The best time to be there is during Ramadan, when the Mosque provides free Iftars, hosted by the different ethnic communities in Cambridge.

Student Prayer Room

The new prayer room is on the Sidgwick site in LBA (please see map) - its the best place to meet fellow Muslim students.

Student Jumuah Prayers
Bowett Room, Queens College

Due to the large attendances of the "weekly Eid" we hold friday prayers in the cavernous Bowett room. Salaat runs from 1 till 2 pm.

West Cambridge Prayer Room

The Merton Farmhouse at the junction of JJ Thomson Avenue and Madingley Road has recently been refurbished and for a period is to be used as a West Cambridge Chaplaincy centre. It includes a prayer room which can be made available to all faiths.

Muslim Chaplaincy
8b, Kings Parade

The University has a Muslim Chaplain, John Butt, who is an English Muslim, fluent in Urdu and Pashtu (and English too!). He resides in Cambridge for parts of the term, and gives Qur’an and Hadith Classes in the Chaplaincy. Feel free to visit him and benefit from his knowledge. His email addresses is jmbutt @ hotmail.com
In his absence, the Deputy Chaplain (Asim Zubcevic) should be contacted at az241 @ cam.ac.uk
