Although the Islamic Society's financial position is not dire, it could be a whole lot better. As you will appreciate, a great deal of effort is put into organising a number of informative and enjoyable events throughout the term and of course this requires adequate funding.
We would like to encourage as many of you as possible to set up standing orders to the Islamic Society account, even if it be for as little as 5 pounds per month.
Why should you do this? Allah (SWT) has mentioned in several places in the Holy Qur'an the huge rewards for giving charity. The reward in this case would not only be for giving, but is likely to be multiplied since you may receive the same reward as those who benefit from the events which your money helps to fund. Plus, the advantage of a standing order is that it is regular and you can't forget to pay. Amongst the most beloved actions to the Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) were those that were regular, even though they might require little effort.
If you still have any doubts about contributing, reflect for a moment on the following verse: "The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah (SWT) is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah (SWT) gives manifold increase to whom he pleases. And Allah (SWT) is sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knowing." (Surah 2, al-Baqarah, Verse 261).
InshaAllah, standing order forms will be available shortly in the Mill Lane prayer room or you can print one from here. If you have any queries, please email
