Assalamu Alaikum

The HR committee was quite recently set up by members of Isoc that felt obliged to do more to help people all over the world suffering from Human Rights abuses. Widespread public apathy in developed countries coupled with the "War on Terror" has all but stripped billions of people's rights to lead a dignified life. The situation is terrible in places like Palestine & Iraq, and even in Britain muslims are more likely to be stop-searched than anyone else.

The main function of HR is to raise awareness. Awareness of events unfolding around us, catalogued Human Rights abuses, and also awareness of our own rights, and what we should do if they are violated. Our main instrument in acheiving this aim is the weekly newswire, which has links to various pertinent news sources. We are also invited to HR training days around the country and even host some of our own.

To join the mailing list for the newswire and other HR events please e-mail hrcom @ isoc.co.uk.
