Human Rights

This committee is concerned with raising awareness of human rights abuses around the world, affecting both Muslims and non Muslims alike, with a view to prompt student activism. The committee organises film screenings, informative lectures delivered by prominent figures in the field, and student led discussions to explore the surrounding issues more deeply. The weekly newswire produced by the committee panellists offers the society’s members weekly updates on topical and pressing human rights issues. The sub committee aims to engage the mind and conscience of all society members, as well as encouraging contributions from and participation by non society members.

Johann Hari: The hidden truth behind drug company profits

For the mind to ponder. . .

And say: "Truth has (now) arrived, and Falsehood perished: for Falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish." We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.

(Quran 17:81-82)
