President

Mirina Paananen
St. John's College
2nd Year Medic

Assalamualaikum, my name is Mirina and I’m the President of the Cambridge University ISoc. My role is to manage the day to day organisation of the society and make sure everything is running smoothly. I aim to represent the society’s members and try to make sure we are achieving our aims and objectives and finding ways to improve. I work closely with the Vice President and other Shura members to  organise ISoc activities and liaise with different societies and organisations. Outside of ISoc I’m busy being a medic and do my best to engage myself in other leisurely pursuits. I encourage you all to get involved with the ISoc - there are so many different things to be a part of (check out the subcommittee pages) so you’ll never be short of stuff to do whilst in Cambridge.

If you have any ideas/queries then feel free to get in touch on mp520 [@cam.ac.uk].

Brothers' Vice President

Mohamed Abdalla
Jesus College
3rd Year Bio-NatSci

Assalamu Alaikum, my name is Mohamed Abdalla and I am the Brothers Vice President for the Islamic Society (ISoc) at Cambridge University. My role is to represent the views of brothers on the executive committee, look after their welfare and also ensure their participation in the society. Now I am not a qualified counselor but my friendly nature means that I can comfortably have a chat with any brother to fulfill my role. I am Somali, which leads to many people asking me whether I classify myself as an Arab or an African. It is such a rare commodity to have Arabs or Africans in the ISoc executive committee so for inclusive purposes, I am both African and Arab.
If you are seeking Mo, look for the bro with the `fro`. You can also contact me at ma433 [@cam.ac.uk]his e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

My duties include organising arguably the most essential weekly occurrence at ISoc, Salat Al Jumma' (Friday Prayers). I have set up weekly brother-led circles, which have been very successful thus far. Also, I work closely with the brother's social reps to arrange events that bring brothers together throughout the year. Everyone at ISoc works hard to create an environment whereby we can all learn and benefit from one another, the student community and the wider community. May Allah aid us with our endeavours and guide us throughout.

Brothers' Deputy Vice

Safian Younas
Gonville & Caius College
2nd year Medic

Assalaamu alaikum; my role is to support the work Brother Mohamed does to represent the brothers as well as contribute to the many endeavours that the ISoc pursues. Unfortunately I don't have a 'fro though.

In particular, I have been involved with Sponsorship for a time, as well as Access (something which I do for the university admissions office too). Any questions on the applications procedure, interviews, life at cambridge etc. do get into contact [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ]. We're fortunate to serve such a vibrant and active ISoc; Cambridge is a whirlwind of diverse challenges and experiences and the ISoc plays an invaluable role in making that journey that much more manageable, memorable and spiritually fulfilling. Alhumdulillah.

Secretary

Sabiha Ahmed
Newnham College
2nd year Theologian

Assalamualaikum waRahmatullah! I’m a second year Theologian at Newnham College.  I’m also the secretary of the Islamic Society.  My job here involves filling up Isocer inboxes with the infamous Week Ahead as well as info to make sure everyone’s up to date with what’s going on; it also involves lots of other tedious organising and arranging of things.  If you want to know what all this is really about I'd say that basically, university is an amazing time where education and experience helps you to 'find yourself', and with the right friends it can be the time of your life - Cambridge ISoc helps to make it all a reality, we're really just a bunch working together to learn, experience, discover and enjoy it all at the same time :). Really, get in touch on sa516[@cam.ac.uk], get active, get involved... you won't regret it.

Treasurer

Mostafa Al-Mossallami
Girton College
2nd year English

Assalaamu Alaikum, I am the treasurer of the society and it is my job to guard the 'pot of gold' at the end of the rainbow. Although, the way finances are looking it is important to remind ourselves of the proverb: "if you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy". Alhumdulillah, money can't buy the ISoc. But for a small fee you may sponsor us. Please contact me. ma470[@cam.ac.uk]

General Advisor

Hammad Parwaiz
Jesus College
4th year Medic

My name is Hammad, and I'm a 4th year medic at Jesus College. Previously I have been the treasurer and then the president of this Islamic Society. This year my position on the shura committee is as a "general advisor", a term which took much thought and deliberation to come up with. As the position suggests, I advise. Generally.

But what is my role really about? I give advice and help to the other shura members when needed, help out where required and do my bit to help this ISoc run as smoothly as possible.
The ISoc is a great way to experience several aspects of Uni life, meets lots of people, socialise and it can act as a vehicle for self-development on the religious side of things. It is truly a home away from home, and can offer you so much. Throughout the past few years I have gained so much by being a part of ISoc, and it's been great fun getting involved in the society's activities. I would encourage everyone to get involved, be a part of the team that is ISoc and benefit as much as you can from all that ISoc has to offer you.

For the mind to ponder. . .

And say: "Truth has (now) arrived, and Falsehood perished: for Falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish." We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.

(Quran 17:81-82)

For the eyes. . .
